Dr RAM Saloojee, founding member of the Lenmed Group, passes away.
It is with great sadness that we heard of the passing of one of our founding directors Dr RAM Saloojee on the 2 December 2020.
Dr RAM Saloojee was one of the initial board members of the Lenmed Group which came into being in 1980.
He was part of a group of doctors who took it on themselves to raise funds and build a healthcare facility catering for the marginalised communities of Lenasia, Soweto and surrounds.
Today this facility is known as Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital and is part of a 14-hospital-strong group, operating in four countries in Africa.
His death marks a great loss to the community of Lenasia where he lived and worked as a doctor for most of his life, and to the broader liberation movement in South Africa.
Dr Saloojee had a remarkable ability to blend his civic, political, moral and spiritual activism.
Even as he fought alongside leading figures in the national liberation movement, he never deterred from his own local community.
He stood for for social justice, religious tolerance and national liberation.
Dr Saloojee is survived by his two children and their children.
As we, the employees, doctors and management of Lenmed, reflect in gratitude for contribution and mourn his loss, we extend our condolences his incredible to his family and loved ones.
